Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a multifactorial disease influenced by both genetic predisposition and environmental factors. Family history of diabetes significantly increases an individual’s risk of developing the condition due to inherited genetic variations. However, lifestyle choices such as diet, physical activity, and weight management play a crucial role in modulating this risk. This article reviews the genetic factors contributing to familial diabetes and emphasizes the importance of healthy lifestyle interventions in prevention and management. Understanding the interplay between genetics and environment is vital for personalized risk assessment and targeted strategies to reduce diabetes incidence in high-risk populations.
