THE STUDY OF ANTHROPONYMS IN FOLK EPICS: A STUDY OF “BEOWULF” AND “ALPOMISH”

This thesis provides a comparative analysis of the structural characteristics of anthroponyms in Beowulf and Alpomish, with particular attention to morphological structures, word-formation processes, semantic interpretation, patronymic forms, and gender-specific features. The analysis reveals that Beowulf predominantly contains Germanic compound names reflecting concepts of heroism, warfare, and genealogical affiliation, whereas Alpomish represents Turkic naming practices shaped by symbolic meanings, kinship relations, tribal identity, and cultural values. The study demonstrates both similarities and typological distinctions between Indo-European and Turkic anthroponymic systems and emphasizes the significant role of epic narratives in preserving and transmitting national onomastic heritage.
