Abstract

The development of effective assessment systems plays an important role in teaching English to economics students. In modern higher education, assessment is not limited to testing grammatical knowledge but also evaluates professional communication skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to use economic terminology in real contexts. This article examines different assessment approaches used in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), including formative and summative assessment, performance-based evaluation, and task-oriented testing. Particular attention is given to integrating economic content into language assessment, such as case studies, presentations, report writing, and data interpretation. The study emphasizes that well-designed assessment systems improve students’ motivation, measure communicative competence, and support professional development. The paper concludes that combining traditional and alternative assessment methods ensures a comprehensive evaluation of economics students’ English proficiency and prepares them for academic and professional communication.
