This paper examines how standardized language tests like TOEFL and IELTS affect students’ learning, motivation, and education systems. These tests offer objective ways to measure language ability, which are important for academic and career opportunities. However, their effects go beyond assessment, influencing teaching methods, curriculum structure, and social equality. Using a qualitative approach, the study highlights both benefits and drawbacks of such exams. While they help set clear learning goals, they can also cause stress, limit curriculum scope, and deepen socio-economic gaps. The paper suggests improvements such as using formative assessment and real-life tasks to create a fairer and more effective system.
