The article examines the role of foreign language proficiency in the development of the engineering field in the context of globalization and digitalization. The key areas of the impact of language competence on engineers’ professional activities are analyzed, including international communication, access to scientific and technical information, development of cognitive skills, and intercultural collaboration. Special attention is given to the importance of professionally-oriented foreign language teaching in technical universities. The study concludes that foreign language proficiency is a crucial factor in enhancing specialists’ competitiveness and fostering innovative development in the engineering sector.
