APPROACHES OF TEACHING ENGLISH PHONETICS

The instruction of English phonetics is of paramount importance in fostering learners' communicative competence, intelligibility, and pronunciation accuracy. The present article explores major approaches to the teaching of English phonetics within the framework of modern language pedagogy. Utilising the IMRAD structure, the study investigates the theoretical foundations, classroom methodologies, practical applications, and learning outcomes associated with phonetic instruction. The research under scrutiny herein highlights both traditional and contemporary approaches, including articulatory, auditory, communicative, and technology-assisted methods. The findings demonstrate that an integrated approach combining explicit phonetic instruction with communicative practice yields the most effective results in pronunciation development. The article also discusses pedagogical implications for teachers, curriculum designers, and linguistics researchers.
