Abstract

The study studies how cognitive linguists have upgraded their ideas about the usefulness of the road metaphor through time and around the globe. Using Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) and ideas from cultural linguistics, the research investigates how “road” represents various abstract ideas such as life, time and purpose. Analysis of language and literature demonstrates that the use of “road” imagery is constantly changing and very important in how we think and communicate.
