Abstract

The article analyses the philosophical foundations of young people’s vulnerability to fanaticism and the role of the social environment in its formation. Fanaticism is interpreted as an uncritical devotion to an idea that is regarded as the only absolute truth, accompanied by the rejection of other views and the desire to impose one’s position on others. On the basis of the ideas of E.Erikson, E.Fromm, E.Hoffer, E.Durkheim and K.Popper, as well as F.Moghaddam’s “staircase” model of radicalization, it is substantiated that identity crisis, loneliness, anomie and closed thinking create inner readiness for fanaticism in youth. The influence of the family, the mahalla, the educational and the digital environment is examined. The author argues that the policy of “Enlightenment against ignorance” in New Uzbekistan is effective because it addresses the causes of fanaticism rather than only its consequences.
