This thesis examines Uzbek and English proverbs as linguistic and cultural units that express moral values. Proverbs occupy an important place in the cultural memory of a nation because they preserve social experience in a concise and memorable form. Although Uzbek and English belong to different language families and developed in different cultural environments, their proverbial systems contain many comparable ethical concepts. At the same time, the linguistic images through which those concepts are expressed often reflect nationally specific ways of thinking.
