Abstract

This thesis examines the economic essence of e-commerce platforms and their role in the development of the digital economy. The rapid expansion of digital technologies, internet accessibility, and electronic payment systems has significantly accelerated the growth of e-commerce, making it one of the key drivers of economic development worldwide. The study analyzes the theoretical foundations of e-commerce platforms, their business models, economic functions, and contribution to digital transformation. Particular attention is given to the impact of e-commerce on market efficiency, business competitiveness, employment, innovation, and consumer behavior. The paper also highlights the challenges and opportunities associated with the sustainable development of e-commerce platforms and proposes recommendations for strengthening their role in the digital economy.
