METABOLIC SYNDROME AS A RISK FACTOR FOR BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA AND PROSTATE CANCER: PATHOGENETIC AND MOLECULAR ASPECTS

Background. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer (PCa) are among the most common age-related diseases affecting men worldwide. Despite remarkable advances in diagnosis and treatment, both disorders remain major causes of morbidity and reduced quality of life. Recent evidence indicates that metabolic syndrome (MetS), characterized by central obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and impaired glucose metabolism, plays an important role in the initiation and progression of prostatic diseases. Understanding the molecular mechanisms linking metabolic abnormalities with prostate pathology is essential for developing effective preventive and personalized therapeutic strategies.
