E. L. VOYNICH’S ARTISTIC EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONIFICATION FOR EXPRESSIVENESS IN “ THE GADFLY”

Abstract

This article analyzes E.L.Voynich’s artistic mastery in using personification as a stylistic device in the novel “The Gadfly”. It demonstrates how the author animates nature, inanimate objects, and abstract concepts to enhance expressiveness, reflect characters’ inner emotions, and enrich the narrative with vivid imagery. The study shows that personification plays a crucial role in creating emotional depth, symbolic meaning, and aesthetic value in the novel. Through detailed textual examples, the article reveals how Voynich integrates human psychology with the natural world, making the environment an active participant in the narrative.
