METHODOLOGICAL CHALLENGES: INCONSISTENCY AND LACK OF UNIDIRECTIONALITY IN CROSS-LAYER PATTERNS
Keywords:

The exploration of inter-layer typology has emerged as a pivotal area of inquiry in linguistics, aiming to uncover the intricate relationships among various linguistic layers, such as phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. However, this endeavor is fraught with empirical hurdles that complicate our understanding of how these layers interact. Language is inherently dynamic, and changes over time can lead to shifts in cross-layer interactions. Historical linguistics reveals that what may have been a consistent pattern in one era may not hold true in another. This temporal aspect adds another layer of complexity to the study of inter-layer typology
