Cardiogenic shock is a life-threatening condition characterized by inadequate tissue perfusion due to primary cardiac dysfunction, most commonly resulting from acute myocardial infarction. It is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates if not recognized and managed promptly. The pathophysiology involves severe impairment of cardiac output, leading to systemic hypotension, end-organ hypoperfusion, and metabolic derangements. Early recognition, hemodynamic stabilization, pharmacologic support, and timely revascularization or mechanical circulatory support are critical to improving outcomes. This article provides an overview of the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic approaches, and current management strategies for cardiogenic shock.
