CULTURAL CODES IN THE FANTASY GENRE: NATIONAL AND GLOBAL CULTURAL IMAGINARIES IN URSULA K. LE GUIN’S THE LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS

This article analyzes the cultural codes in Ursula K. Le Guin’s novel The Left Hand of Darkness. The imagined planet Gethen serves as a metaphorical space for exploring the social construction of gender, political systems, and both national and global cultural values. Le Guin’s anthropological perspective allows for an in-depth examination of philosophical and social issues within the speculative fiction genre. The article explores themes such as gender fluidity, mythological structure, political ideologies, and Eastern philosophy through a critical and theoretical lens.
