Abstract

This thesis explores the pragmatic dimensions of evaluative units in communication, focusing on how evaluative expressions function in discourse. Evaluative units—such as adjectives, adverbs, modal verbs, and discourse markers—play a crucial role in expressing stance, attitudes, and judgments. From a pragmatic perspective, their interpretation depends on context, implicature, politeness strategies, and cultural norms. The study examines how evaluative language contributes to subjectivity, face management, and speech acts, shaping both explicit and implicit meanings.
